    National Handloom Day Celebrated in Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya

    A variety of booths have been set up to promote Eri products made by several SHGs in the region.

    Digital Desk: The Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving, Textiles Department
    of Meghalaya, observed the 8th National Handloom Day with vigour under the
    theme "My Handloom My Pride," and as part of the celebration, the
    department officially opened the Design Innovation Resource Centre (DIRC)
    building in Diwon Village, Ri Bhoi District.



    The Minister in Charge of the Textiles Department, Banteidor Lyngdoh,
    attended the DIRC's opening as the chief guest, along with Mayral Born Syiem,
    Nongpoh AC MLA, Balajied Ranee, MDC, F.R. Kharkongngor, Commissioner &
    Secretary, Textiles Department, T. Lyngwa, Secretary, Textiles Department,
    Arpit Upadhayay, Deputy Commissioner, and other high ranking officers from the
    department and the Syiem Raid, headmen and SHGs’ members.



    A variety of booths have been set up to promote Eri products made by several
    SHGs in the region, as well as traditional costumes from Raid Nongtluh, Raid
    Marngar, Raid Iapngar, Raid Khatar Lyngdoh, and Karbi, among others, as well as
    Eri clothing created and woven by regional designers.



    As part of the 75th anniversary of India's Independence, the tricolour
    national flag is also unfurled on this day.



    The ceremony honoured the top achievers, including weavers,
    parents, spinners, and business owners.
