Guwahati : Assam’s Finance Minister and NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing several key issues related to the Northeastern states developmental projects as well as issues of disputes within the states raised the issues of border disputes.
The Convener while hailing the concept of NEDA as a bridging concept that will bring the Northeast together, added that the forum can be used to solve various issues plaguing the region. He said that the border issues can be solved if the leaders from all the eight Northeastern states cooperate and come together as one to take a united decision on the issue. “The NEDA alliance can be used as a medium to solve the border disputes among the Northeastern States. We can all hold discussions to resolve the contentious issues,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Minister Sarma further added, “We can also discuss the Inner Line permit (ILP) issue in this forum”, adding that solutions to all of these problems can only be reached through discourse.
During the NEDA meet the state finance minister also raised alarm about the ‘drug menace’ that seems to have spread like a cancer across the Northeastern region, and also claimed that the alliance of the NEDA can be used to resolve the trafficking of drugs in to the Northeast.
