    Northeast security scene improves after 2014: MHA

    According to MHA data, between 2014 and July 15, 2022, a total of 6,070 cadres from various insurgent groups in the north-eastern states were captured with 1,404 weapons and integrated into society.

    Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) indicate that the security situation in the
    Northeast has significantly improved since 2014. According to the MHA data,
    there were 74% fewer insurgency occurrences, 89% fewer civilian fatalities, and
    60% lesser security force injuries in 2021 as compared to 2014. According to MHA
    data, between 2014 and July 15, 2022, a total of 6,070 cadres from various
    insurgent groups in the north-eastern states were captured with 1,404 weapons
    and integrated into society.



    In addition to the 20 security officers killed in 824
    insurgency-related incidents in 2014, up to 212 civilians also perished. The
    data from the ensuing years show that the situation has improved. In 2015,
    there were 46 civilian deaths in 574 incidents and 46 security personnel
    casualties; in 2016, there were 48 civilian deaths in 484 incidents and 17
    security personnel casualties; in 2017, there were 37 civilian deaths in 308
    incidents and 12 security personnel casualties; and in 2018, there were 23
    civilian deaths in 252 incidents and 14 security personnel casualties. 2019 saw
    21 civilian fatalities in 223 incidents, four security personnel casualties,
    and three civilian fatalities in 163 incidents. twenty-three civilian
    fatalities in 209 incidents and eight security personnel casualties in 2021;
    six civilian fatalities in 133 incidents and one security personnel casualty up
    to July 15, 2022.
