Orang (Darrang): The Orang National Park also known as Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, has opened its gates for tourists for the season 2019-20 today. The park’s gate was opened by Minister for Environment and Forest Parimal Suklabaidya amidst great fervor and cultural festivities.
The park has a rich flora and fauna and is the only stronghold of rhinoceros on the north bank of Brahmaputra River. Elephant safaris are available for tourists in the park. The park is located in the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam. It was established as a sanctuary in 1985 and declared as a national park in 1999.
The officials have said that the roads and bridges that were damaged due to flooding have been repaired so that tourists can take elephant rides across the park to see the famed one-horned rhino.
