In a latest development in the sensational disappearance of senior People’s Consultative Group (PCG) member, Rebati Phukan, his son is now stating that Phukan has been kidnapped by someone who doesn’t want Paresh Baruah to return.
Rebati Phukan was a child hood friend of ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah, who has recently gone missing from his residence day before yesterday. His disappearance has sent a sense of uneasiness in the whole ULFA battalion as Rebati Phukan was in close touch of Baruah negotiating between the government and the ULFA-I for the last 7-8 years.
Rebati Phukan’s son Kaushik Phukan while speaking to media personals made a statement that he was suspecting people with vested interests, who don’t want Paresh Baruah to return back to Assam, have kidnapped his father, Rebati Phukan.
Rebati Phukan has gone missing mysteriously since April 22.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is known to be a close compatriot of Rebati Phukan, has taken a strong note of the incident and asked the DGP to trace the whereabouts of Phukan immediately.
DGP Mukesh Sahay while speaking to media persons on Wednesday had stated that the Police are handling the case with topmost priority but so far no clue as such has been found.
“He hasn’t withdrawn cash from any ATM till now or used any such things. We are checking CCTV footage from different locations, both ours and normal public’s. Till now, no headway has been made,” said Sahay.
Speaking about the incident, locals who last saw Rebati Phukan said that he went out for a morning walk at around 6:30 am on April 22 wearing shorts but after that he was not seen anywhere by anyone.
