Guwahati/New Delhi: Once again Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam has been called off following the ongoing protests against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). As per sources, PM’s visit has been cancelled saying that the present situation in Assam is not appropriate for his visit to the state.
The PM was scheduled to visit Assam on Friday, January 10, to inaugurate the third edition of “Khelo India Youth Games” in Guwahati. Earlier too PM’s visit along with Japan Prime Minister Shinjo Abe, was called off due to the tensed situation that prevailed in the state for the anti-CAA protests.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on December 29 warned of intensifying protests if the Prime Minister visits Assam to inaugurate the games. The Assam government, however, was confident that the agitation and protests would douse by the time the games began, but the situation seems to be opposite as the anti-CAA protests by AASU and different organisations have been continuing in the state.
