Srinagar/ Karimganj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jammu & Kashmir today to celebrate the “festival of lights” with Army troops stationed along the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The PM flew directly to the Army Brigade Headquarters in the border district to interact with the troops deployed along the LoC.
This is Modi’s third visit to J&K to celebrate Diwali with the troops in the border state since 2014, although this is his first visit after abrogating provisions of Section 370. The area had witnessed intense mortar shelling and small arms fired by Pakistani troops targeting the Indian troops and civilians in the past two months without any provocation.
Modi started the practice of interacting with the troops serving in tough areas on Diwali soon after he became the prime minister in 2014. On the other hand, Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi will also celebrate Diwali with the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in Karimganj.
