Guwahati/ 10th April’2018 (Prag News Desk):
After receiving Intel reports of an Assamese youth joining Hizbul Mujahedeen, Assam Police have started their probe on one Qumar-Uz-Zaman, a native of Jamunamukh in Hojai district, whose photos have gone viral in social media after he was reportedly being seen joining the Jammu and Kashmir based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahedeen holding automatic guns in his hands in his photos. Qumar’s mother Shahira Khatun has identified her son in the photographs and has confirmed he is indeed the boy holding the machine gun.
Qumar-Uz-Zaman hailed from a middle class family in Assam, had stayed in US for four years and returned back in 2006 after which he shifted to Kashmir valley. Though he was staying alone in Kashmir since 2006, he would be constantly in touch with his family and told them that he had started a garment business there.
Zaman had stopped contacting his family since July 2017, which prompted his family to file a missing person complaint with the police.
“We have not been able to contact him since July 2017. If my son is associated with such an organization, the government can shoot him, I do not need such a son,” said Khatun.
A top Assam police officer has taken up the matter with the Jammu and Kashmir police who after receiving the missing complaint of Zaman are in the lookout for the person.
