Dhemaji : A dream sighted during the signing of the Assam Accord of 1985, the Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh, is finally complete and ready for operation. Today, the nation’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the double storey, rail cum road Bogibeel Bridge.

Bogibeel Bridge inauguration today
The bridge was constructed to connect Dhemaji with Dibrugarh directly as well as improving the connectivity with other regions too.
Per iron beam used in the bridge has been dug 65 deep into the earth, making its base strong which can also makes it withstand a 7 Richter scale earthquake.

Bogibeel Bridge inauguration today
The late PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced the construction of the Bogibeel Bridge. After many years of anticipation, and delayed opening, the bridge is finally complete and ready for operation.
The Bogibeel Bridge is 4.98 km in total length and is the longest two storey rail cum road bridge.

The Bridge has been inspired by the designs of the Sweden and Finland rail cum road bridges.

The bridge has been under constant pressure from various organisations for its naming. Although many names have been given to this bridge along with the proposal from the state organisations to name the bridge as “Sati Sadhani Setu”. While the Central Government plans to the name the bridge as Atal Setu in the honour of the late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Now the length from Dhemaji to Dibrugarh has been cut short by many times and one can reach from one side to other within 10 minutes only.
