On the other hand, 12-year-old Saidul Islam is still unaccounted for after allegedly drowning on Tuesday night while trying to take a bath in the Brahmaputra River at Rajaduar Ghat in the Uzan Bazar neighbourhood of the state capital Guwahati.

Digital Desk: On Wednesday night in Assam's Kokrajhar district, an engineering student was swept away by swift currents in the Gaurang river and is now missing.

The young man, Antariksh Sharma, is a second-year student at the Bineswar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar. He is from the Mirza neighbourhood of Assam's Kamrup region. According to reports, Sharma was being bathed in the river by his pals when he was carried away by strong currents.

Sharma's acquaintance alerted the neighbourhood police with the aid of the villagers. When the police squad and a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived at the location, they started a search operation to find the missing teenager.

But because it was growing dark, the rescue efforts had to be suspended; they started up again on Thursday morning.

"We suspect he must have been swept away by the high currents of the river," a member of the SDRF involved in the rescue operation stated. But we will continue our activities until he is traced. Restrictions should be put in place by the administration in this region to prevent future instances like these. Additionally, I advise the students- especially those who cannot swim- not to enter the river.

The locals are still being enlisted in the search for the missing adolescent by the SDRF and Assam police.
