The state government will revise the salary of teachers of provincialised colleges, state universities and technical/medical institutions as per the 7th UGC Revised pay Scales with effect from April 1, 2016. This was informed by State finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma her on Friday.
Sarma informed that 8,800 faculty members of colleges, universities, medical colleges and technical institutes will be paid as per the revised pay scale. Following this decision, the state government will have an additional liability of around Rs 600 crore annually, the minister informed.
The State Exchequer will have to bear an additional annual burden of Rs 166 crore additional expenditure to pay revised salary to 8,800 teaching staff, including librarians, of government and provincialised degree colleges and state universities. On the other hand, the Assam government will have to bear the arrears liabilities of around Rs 130 crore to pay 800 teachers of medical, engineering, dental and directorate of medical education.
