As many as 9,236 primary school teachers of Assam from across 24 districts of the state affiliated to the All Assam Working Assistant Teachers Association asked the government to shoot them.
“9,236 teachers appointed between 1989 and 2001 are rendering their services for last 20-25 years. Some of the teachers are working as headmasters too. A number of teachers have been engaged in various government works, including NRC draft update exercise. But all of a sudden the appointments are labeled as illegal. This is a conspiracy,” said Nilomani Nath, president of the Association.
The Association strongly demanded that all top-level executives and policy framers in the government be brought into the ambit of the investigation.
On the other hand, as many as 1,530 teachers, affiliated to the All Assam Salary Deprived Assistant teachers Association, have threatened to commit suicide on July 26, along with their entire family in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar district. The teachers said that along with their family members, they will jump into the Borpukhuri pond (Sivasagar rank) to end their lives.
