Guwahati : Soon Guwahati will have a Shahid Udyan in the memory of the Assam martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Assam Agitation.
The martyr’s park of the “Shahid Udyan” will constructed at a sprawling 100 Bigha land in Guwahati.
While addressing a meet in Guwahati, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, “In memory of the Supreme sacrifice of martyrs, the Assam Government would construct a Shahid Udyan so that the supreme sacrifice is not forgotten.”
It may be mentioned that the Assam Government was allotted a 100-Bigha land at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati to set up the Shahid Udyan in memory of the 855 martyrs of the six year Assam Agitation.

The Assam Agitation (1979-1985) was a popular movement against illegal immigrants in Assam. The movement, led by All Assam Students Union and the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad developed a programme of protests and demonstration to compel the Indian government to identify and expel illegal, immigrants and protect and provide constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards to the Assamese people.
