Assam is currently facing an alarming surge in dengue cases, with 1000 plus cases across the state.
Digital Desk: In a recent report, it was found that Dima Hasao had the highest number of cases, totaling 360, which was followed by Jorhat with 73 cases and Kamrup (Metro) district with 62 cases. This has led to serious health concerns among the local population.
It is widely believed that the environment has also contributed to the dissemination of this disease. Specifically, in Guwahati, The ongoing construction of over bridges has resulted in poor roads and blocked drains, creating ideal breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. The increase in dengue cases has alarmed the authorities and created health concerns among people.
So far this year, 62 dengue patients have been treated at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), reflecting the ongoing impact of the disease in the region. Recently, a total of 14 dengue patients have been admitted to (GMCH), with six of them from Guwahati itself. The local cases include one patient from Bhaskar Nagar in Bamunimaidam, two from Zoo road, and three from Bashishta.
To combat the impact of dengue in the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched an initiative with local authorities to target every waterlogged area that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes by introducing Guppy fishes into the drains that eat mosquito larvae and decrease the abundance of mosquitoes, which are responsible for spreading dengue and malaria.
