Guwahati/ 15th May’2018 (Prag News Desk):
It’s raining Bollywood superstars in Assam as it seems so. After Assam Tourism’s brand Ambassador, Priyanka Chopra recently paid a visit for a three day shooting schedule for Assam Tourism, now Bollywood superstar and UNICEF India’s celebrity Kareena Kapoor will be soon visiting Assam for an awareness program on the issues of maternal-infant health.
With the rise in cases of the infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in the state, the UNICEF is trying to rope in Kareena for a visit to address the issues.
Superstar Kareena Kapoor to visit Assam soon
Bollywood superstar, Kareena Kapoor has been lending her helping hand to UNICEF since 2013, where she is connected with many awareness programs and advocating the same. From programs on menstrual hygiene to maternal health, the actor has been actively involved interacting with the public.
With the awful IMR, MMR record of the state, the Centre had already been aggressively carrying out vaccination and medication drives across various districts of Assam, the UNICEF India too is planning or rigorous programs here.
It may be mentioned that the IMR in Assam is reported to be at 44 against the national figure of 37 (the number of deaths per 1,000 live births of children under one year of age) and the MMR is reported to be at 300 against the pan-India average of 167 (the annual number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births).
If reports are true, then Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor will soon be visiting Assam and visiting various districts of Assam promoting maternity-infant health.
