Suspension of Internet not necessary for an Exam, it disrupts normal life: Zubeen Garg

There have been reports of businesses suffering as a result of the suspension, as well as commuters and residents experiencing inconvenience.

Digital Desk: Assam’s popular singer Zubeen Garg stated on Saturday that internet suspension is not necessary during an examination as it affects the functioning of normal life.

Talking over the Assam government’s initiative to suspend mobile internet during the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination, the singer said that it was better if only the mobile phones were submitted by the candidates before appearing in the exam.

"This is the first I've heard of the internet being suspended for an exam. Only submitting the applicants' mobile phones before they entered the exam room would have been better, or finding another solution." Zubeen Garg said.

"Without internet access, people experience various problems. Ola, Uber, and food delivery services among other internet services all experience disruption," he added.

Notably, the petition challenging the internet suspension during the direct recruitment exam was denied by the Gauhati High Court on Friday. As a result, internet access will continue to be suspended between August 28 and September 11 for the upcoming direct recruitment exams.

It is to be noted that the petition was filed after the state government decided to shut down the internet for four hours on August 21 during the Grade IV direct recruitment exam in 25 districts.

Moreover, there have been reports of businesses suffering as a result of the suspension, as well as commuters and residents experiencing inconvenience.
