Earlier today, the Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Mrigen Sarania in a press conference, announced the cleanliness competition for the Durga Puja mandaps in Guwahati.
Digital Desk: Guwahati, Oct 6: This year Guwahati Municipal Corporation is all set to promote cleanliness during the Durga Puja festive season. Earlier today, the Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Mrigen Sarania in a press conference, announced the cleanliness competition for the Durga Puja mandaps in Guwahati.
Sarania highlights that the competition is open to all puja committees and the main agenda behind this initiative is to contribute to cleanliness and sustainability during the festive season. A total of 175 puja committees will be given awards for cleanliness (Swachata) in this competition. He also said that price distribution for these puja committees would be sorted into three categories. Out of 175 committees, INR10,000 will be given to the top 25 committees. The next 50 committees will get INR 7000 each and the rest of them will be granted an amount of INR 5000.
The Guidelines released by GMC for the competition are-
1. No use of plastic in Puja Mandaps
2. Garbage disposal facilities should be provided in every mandap. For which a different committee will be formed consisting of councillors and executive engineers of GMC in every mandap.
3. Puja committees will be awarded on the basis of marks, a total of 70 marks is allotted to each committee.
Moreover, NGOs that would contribute to the cleanliness drive would also be rewarded. Based on the performance the NGO's will be awarded accordingly, first prize holder will receive a sum amount of INR 1lakh, second and third winners will receive a sum worth INR 75,000 and INR 50,000 respectively.
Mayor Sarania then added that there will also be a competition held among the committees formed for managing cleanliness in every mandap. Rewards will also be allotted to them, the one with the first prize will receive a sum worth INR 10 lakh, and the second and third-prize winners will receive a sum of INR 7 lakh and INR 5 lakh, respectively.
The competition will be held from Durga Puja to Kali Puja and the awards will be distributed after Diwali.
