Digital Desk: After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guwahati is awash in Durga Puja fervour, with the pandals decked out in intriguing themes and lovely decorations.

In the Chatribari area in the capital city of Assam, the Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti has built its Durga Puja pandal like a library.

The Puja committee seeks to encourage people to read by using this theme.

The Durga Puja pandal with a library theme features great personalities and literature from Assam.

Speaking to ANI, SK Paul, President of Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti said, "We have taken the library theme to showcase the power of knowledge. Our main aim is to build this year's Puja pandal like a library to encourage our new generation to read books."

"We have put up at least 5,000 books written by renowned writers on the shelves. We are also trying to introduce the renowned Assamese writers to our new generation. We have tried to show a brief introduction of the renowned writers in the pandal," added Paul.

More than 18,000 vibrant pens have been used by the Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti to build the idols of the goddess Durga.

The annual Durga Puja festival, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, honours the Hindu goddess Durga and commemorates her victory over Mahishasur.

Durga Puja is now an integral part of Indian culture, with many people celebrating it in their own distinctive manner while adhering to tradition.

According to Hindu mythology, the goddess visits her home on the earth at this season to bestow blessings on her devotees. Durga Puja is a major celebration in Bengali culture. This year, Maha Shashti falls on October 1, and Vijaya Dashami on October 5.

The significance of Durga Puja goes beyond religion and is revered as the celebration of compassion, brotherhood, humanity, art and culture. From the reverberation of 'dhak' to new clothes and delicious food, these days are filled with joy.
