Guwahati : Three officials of the Excise Department were killed in Golaghat’s Morongi on Wednesday late night after their vehicle collided head on with a dumper.
The dastardly accident took place at National Highway 39 in Morongi near Numaligarh in Saarar village. A Tata sumo, bearing Registration No AS-01-DJ-0801, collided with a dumper with Registration No. NL-05-G-1049. Six officials were travelling in the Tata sumo as reported.
The Excise Department team was returning to Guwahati from an investigation in Golaghat. The officials were looking into the illicit liquor syndicate that was being operated from Arunachal Pradesh. In the horrifying collision, two of the officials died on the spot. Constable Ramen Bonjang was burned into ashes inside the car after it caught the fir following the collision. Sub-inspector Samu Maibongsa died on the spot.
Four other officials were immediately rushed to the Golaghat Shahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Official namely, Harekrishna Kumar was in critical condition who later succumbed to his injuries. Tanu Injalak, another team member of the Excise Department, was referred to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, Excise officer Zahidul Haque and driver K Rahul Singh who were undergoing treatment at the Golaghat Civil Hospital has been referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
As per the statement of Zahidul and Tunu, the team had moved to Golaghat town via Jorhat on the directions of the Excise Department’s senior officer. After having a discussion with the Golaghat excise Department, they were planning for sting operation at night but they, unfortunately, met with a horrifying accident while they were on their way back to Guwahati.
