Guwahati: Drunken truck drivers in Assam are increasing day by day causing deaths of several people. Last night, a truck tumbled down after hitting a divider at Tezpur’s Mission Chariali. Two people were critically injured due to the accident which occurred at the NH-37.
Meanwhile, another truck accident occurred last night at Silchar’s Meherpur village. A speeding truck killed two girls on the spot while injuring 12 people. Even though the injured people were rushed to the hospital, the condition of two people are said to be critical. The deceased girls re identified as Sonali Das and Pompi Dey.
It is to be mentioned that the speeding truck hit the twelve people when they were en route for Kali Puja idol immersion. Angry mob caught the driver and handyman of the truck while also burning the truck. The situation was brought to control by paramilitary forces and police personnel.
Local witnesses said that the truck driver was drunk due to which the accident occurred. On the other hand, a head on collision occurred between a Bolero pick up van and a truck at the NH-15 in Lakhimpur’s Balijan last night. The accident left two people injured who are undergoing treatment at Lakhimpur hospital.
