Dibrugarh : With increase menace of cow syndicate still continuing unabated in Assam, the NH 37 has become the corridor of syndicate in Upper Assam. The Dibrugarh police on Sunday night have seized a truck carrying large number of cows in the national highway.
The police have seized the truck bearing number AS-23BC-5339 at Gabharupathar in Dibrugarh which carried 33 cows during its regular search operation. The operation has been carried under the leadership of Officer in-charge of Lahowal Police station Hrishikesh Hazarika and seized the truck when it tried to escape from the scene. Police also arrested the truck driver Shabir Khan, Ashraf Ali and Safror Khan.
It has been informed by police that Haider of Chabua and Papu of Tengakhat were taking the cows to Guwahati when the police seized the truck along with the cows.
It may be mentioned that the cattle syndicate in rising at an alarming rate and the national highways have become the corridor of illegal business. Locals also alleged that cattle smugglers have been able to smuggle the cows as local organizations help them to pass through the national highways in lieu of taking commission. It has been alleged by the locals that is not only cattle but also coal, , wood have also been smuggled through the national highways.
