Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Uniform Civil Code(UCC) would be implemented in Assam following the implementation across the country.
After the implementation of UCC in Uttarakhand, CM Sarma said that the northern Indian state had done it and it would now be implemented in the entire country and then in Assam too.
Gujarat and Assam are the only two BJP-governed states that want to implement UCC in their respective states.
This law resonates with one country, one rule and to be applied to all irrespective of religion and caste. This law aims to unify personal laws related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and succession for all citizens.
The term, "Uniform Civil Code" is mentioned in Part 4, Article 44 of the Indian Constitution which says, "The state shall endeavor to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory in India."
Speaking to a news agency, CM Sarma earlier said, "Uttarakhand is a role model for our country. I want to thank Dhami for implementing UCC through which he has shown the country the way ahead. We also need to pick UCC going forward."
CM Sarma lauded Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for the implementation of UCC in the state. CM Dhami in a statement directed all the officials to ensure proper training for the personnel to implement the provisions of the UCC.
