Hriday Hazarika strikes gold in 10 m air rifle at Junior World Cup
Assam’s Hriday Hazarika struck gold at 10 m air rifle Junior World Cup held at Suhl, Germany on Monday bringing laurels not only to his country but his birthplace Assam too.
Hazarika scored 248.7 in the final to finish 0.3 points ahead of Maximilian Ulbrich, the silver medalist from Germany and Gangfeng Fu from China. The other Indian to reach the final, Divyansh Singh Panwar, was the scored to be eliminated with a total score of 141.8.
Gold for Assam’s Hriday Hazarika
Hazarika has been consistent throughout the event by scoring 9.9 at the end and with only three scores below 10. Still his determination and consistent show in the event made him sail through and eventually bagged the gold thus making the nation proud.
Hazarika had been topping the chart since qualifying with a score of 627.1.
Hazarika’s gold was India’s second in the day after Elavenil Valarivan won gold in women’s 10 m rifle. His win is India’s eighth medal from the competition, with four gold, one silver and three bronze medals in its kitty.
