Guwahati : The security set up in Guwahati as well as in other major train stations of North East have been enhanced ahead of Independence Day.
An alert has been sounded in all major train stations to avert any unwanted situation and round the clock track patrolling in the vulnerable stretches are being conducted by the GRP, RPF and Railway staff.
The security check at the Guwahati railway station too has been enhanced with extra troops of fully armed Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), RPF personnel on shift duty at the station. At present about 30 GRP personnel are keeping a hawk eye at the station on each shift.
Other than this, frisking of passengers/luggage with metal detectors, anti-sabotage checking via squads are being undertaken. The CCTV cameras installed at the stations are also being monitored.
Also, there have been instructions to keep a check at the dustbins, cloakrooms, suspicious parcels and monitor the parking lots, additionally the coolies, vendors, taxi drivers and so on are briefed to report to the railway authorities on receipt of any suspicious persons/activity.
