    Rupam Asom was arrested with deadly weapons by the Assam Police during an operation at the Assam-Arunachal border. 

    Digital Desk: The Assam Police in a joint operation with the Assam Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested Rupam Asom, a commander of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-I).  

    Rupam Asom was arrested with deadly weapons by the Assam Police during an operation at the Assam-Arunachal border. 

    Rupam Asom led the assassination of the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bordumsa police station Bhaskar Kalita on May 4, 2018. He also led many military operations of the banned militant organization. 

    Earlier, Assam Police had announced a bounty on Rupam Asom. 

    A police source said that Rupam was hiding in a jungle along the Assam-Arunachal border with his team. After getting information about their presence, a police team launched an operation and caught him. 

    As per sources, Rupam Asom was also running an extortion racket in Tinsukia and other parts of Assam.

    Intensive security operations will continue at the Assam-Arunachal Border to nab more ULFA cadres.
