Digital Desk: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped in front of her two children at Dholai in Cachar district, Assam on January 22. According to the police, the horrific incident took place when the accused, who is also a neighbor of the woman forcefully entered her house. The accused allegedly raped her, poured acid, and escaped from the house.
The victim was admitted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) by her husband. Her health condition remains critical, police said.
The police informed on Wednesday that a case was filed by the victim's husband on January 23. The accused has been on the run since the incident. Police personnel are looking to apprehend the accused in connection with the case.
According to the police, during an altercation between the victim and the accused, the woman insulted the man. After the verbal spat, the man forcibly entered the woman's house and raped her. He also poured an acid-like substance on her. Her husband was not at home at the time of the incident.
When he came back home, he found her lying on the floor and her hands and feet were tied.
According to the victim's family, she suffered around 60% burn injuries and was admitted for treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The woman's husband alleged that the accused often misbehaved with the married women in the area. He also said that the accused asked them to share their phone numbers and wrote objectionable things about them.
