Assam’s “Dhing Express” Hima Das becomes first Indian to clinch gold in 400 m track event
Bringing glory to the nation, Assam’s sprinter Hima Das created history on Thursday after clinching a gold medal in the 400 metre final at IAAF- World under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland.
As per sources, Das took only 51.46 seconds to claim the top position in the 400 metre final. Also, sprinter Andrea Miklos of Romania came second with the run-up timing of 52.07 seconds while USA’s Taylor Manson claimed for bronze with run-up timing of 52.28 seconds.
It is to be noted that since April, Hima Das clocked the Indian Under-20 record of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400 metre final in Gold Coast on April.
She had also won a gold medal in the recently concluded National Inter-State Championships in Guwahati.
