Debasish Khargharia, who was nabbed from Guwahati’s Sixmile area for abetting parents’ suicide, denied allegations of not bearing the medical expenses of father Rajani Khargharia and mother Rubi Khargharia.
Debasish was picked up by the police from Six Mile In Guwahati on Thursday in connection with the Sivasagar PS Case no. 624/18 U/S 306/420 IPC. However, his wife Geetashree Duara Khargharia is still absconding.
Speaking to media, Debasish said, “There are always two sides of a story. The truth is yet to come out. One can check the medical records….people are saying I didn’t pay for my parents’ medical expenses. I will prove everything…. I will say everything.”
Rajani left behind an 11-page suicide note stating that they were going through a severe financial crisis and their only son Debasish was not taking care of his ailing parents. They were also not being able to buy medicines and pay house rents. Rajani stated in the suicide note that their only son had repeatedly cheated them and daughter-in-law Geetashree insulted him when he had approached them for monetary assistance for his ailing wife.
Rajani also mentioned that he even after all the “humiliations and insults”, he loved Debasish as he a “blessing of the God”, born after three daughters.
“He (Rajani) said he loved me…this is love? I have a nine year old son…he has destroyed my life (by mentioning his name in the suicide note)….my son’s life is destroyed…he is staying with his maternal grandparents,” he said.
The bodies of the Khargharia couple were recovered on July 1. Rajani was once an established business and used to run a mobile theatre company.
On being quizzed about the whereabouts of his wife, Debasish said, “I don’t know….I have no contact. I was not running away from police or evading arrest. When the incident occurred…my brain stopped working.”
Geetashree is a TET teacher at the Santipur ME School in Borguri, according to the locals. Debasish is an employee of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
