Shocking! Patient on ventilator in ICU raped by hospital staffer, informs through handwritten note

New Delhi: 21-year-old patient admitted to a private hospital in Gurugram was allegedly raped by a member of the staff while she was in the intensive care unit (ICU), police have said.

The woman was allegedly assaulted while she was on the ventilator in ICU of the hospital.

As per reports, the patient told her father about the crime through a handwritten note when she regained consciousness after a few weeks following which the family approached police and a case was registered at Sushant Lok police station.

The patient is still under treatment at the hospital, Hindustan Times reported.

As per the news daily, the woman was admitted after she complained of breathing news. She was being treated for tuberculosis and was in isolation in an ICU.

Usha Kundu, the assistant commissioner of police (HQ), told the daily that the father of the patient went to meet her and she told him through written messages that she was raped.

“The hospital conducted an investigation internally and we were informed by the family members, following which we registered a case under section 376 (2) (E) of Indian Penal Code at Sushant Lok police station. We have identified the suspect but are yet to arrest him,” she was quoted as saying in the report.
