4 possible captaincy options for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 if Rishabh Pant misses out

The BCCI offered an official update regarding Pant's injury in a statement that was posted on Friday afternoon.

Digital Desk: Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant suffered an unfortunate accident on Friday morning, December 30, in Roorkee. Around 5:30 in the morning, the 25-year-old cricket player's car hit a divider and caught fire. To escape, Pant broke the windscreen, but he was severely injured. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Max Hospital in Dehradun. His mishap was reported widely after it happened. Social media sites have seen a surge in the popularity of a number of the crash's photographs and videos.

The BCCI offered an official update regarding Pant's injury in a statement that was posted on Friday afternoon.

The right knee of the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter has a torn ligament. He also has abrasions on his back, right wrist, ankle, and toe injuries, as well as two cuts on his forehead.

The batsman will need at least three to six months to recover from these injuries, according to a story in The Times of India, and will therefore be unable to compete in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

In the Indian Premier League, Pant plays as the team's captain for the Delhi Capitals. Before the 2021 season began, he received the assignment. DC will need to find a new captain as well as a wicketkeeper-batter if he is unable to get fit, which has a very slim possibility of happening. They have a few players who, if needed, can perform the task.

In Pant's absence, here are the four contenders who could lead the Delhi Capitals:

David Warner: In the IPL 2023, David Warner, an Australian opening batter, will likely be the top contender to replace Pant as the Delhi Capitals' captain. He's led an IPL franchise before, so he has leadership experience. At the time of their IPL championship in 2016, he served as Sunrisers Hyderabad's captain. Despite Cricket Australia's ban on him from serving as captain, it won't be enforced during the IPL, so he may resume his leadership.

Prithvi Shaw: Another candidate for the role is Prithvi Shaw, the former captain of India's U-19 World Cup-winning team. Although he has commanded the Mumbai team in domestic cricket, the 23-year-old has never captained the team in the IPL. He was their captain as they won the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy and finished second in the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy.

Mitchell Marsh: Similar to Prithvi Shaw, Marsh has never led a side in the IPL, but he will get the opportunity to do so in 2023. The 31-year-old all-rounder has experience coaching teams in Australian domestic cricket as well as managing the Australia U-19 squad to a championship victory in 2010.

Manish Pandey: Manish Pandey was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.4 crore last week during the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Due to his significant domestic cricket experience as the captain of Karnataka and his several championship victories, he may be a surprise choice to captain DC in the IPL 2023. He could be given the duty if necessary because he is the only member of the Delhi Capitals team to have participated in all 15 IPL seasons.
