Digital Desk: Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, will be present at the Khelo India University Games 2023 inaugural ceremony on Monday in Guwahati.

The inaugural ceremonies will take place in Guwahati at the Sarusajai Sports Complex.

Angaraag Papon Mahanta, a well-known playback singer and composer, will also perform at the function.

Several athletes from the Northeast are scheduled to compete in the games, which will conclude on February 29.

Anurag Thakur will be attending the event alongside Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. A video message from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is going to inspire the athletes.

The Khelo India University Games are in their fourth edition. In KIUG 2023, around 4500 athletes from 200 universities will compete.

Assam’s sports and youth welfare minister, Nandita Garlosa stated that Papon's participation will glam up the grand inauguration celebration.

“Papon is a youth icon of India and Guwahati will listen to him live. We have had the greatest of musicians like Bhupen Hazarika but good music doesn’t understand any generation. Both Hazarika and Papon are unique in their ways and not to forget Zubeen Garg,” Garlosa said.

The grand opening of the Games, which will welcome all attendees free of charge, will also feature a thematic showcase highlighting the values of unity, diversity, and the spirit of sportsmanship. Additionally, the vibrant culture of Assam will take centerstage with captivating displays of indigenous arts, adding an extra layer of cultural immersion to the event.

The KIUG is a part of the Indian government’s Khelo India initiative that was launched in 2016. The Khelo India mission focuses on promoting grassroots sports and identifying young talents from across the country.

A grand presentation emphasizing the principles of unity, diversity, and sportsmanship will be included at the Games' grand opening, which will be open to all guests free of charge. An additional layer of cultural immersion will be added to the event as mesmerizing exhibitions of traditional arts will highlight the diverse culture of Assam.

The Khelo India program, which was introduced by the Indian government in 2016, includes the KIUG. The goals of Khelo India are to find youthful talent across the nation and to promote grassroots sports.
