    Assam youths awakening state pride through sporting success at national level

    Guwahati: Assam's weightlifter Suditya Baruah clinched a gold medal at the Youth, Junior and Senior National Championship at Patiala. Earlier, Assam player Amlan Borgohain bagged the gold medal in the 200M race on the final day of the 60th National Open Athletics Championships.

    Assam athlete Suditya won gold in the men's 89kg category weightlifting competition.





    Suditya created two new national records in Clean and Jerk and in Total. In Clean and Jerk, he made a record with 1623kg, and in Total, he performed a record with 283kg. 





    Last year, Suditya won gold for Assam in men's Under-17 weightlifting in the 89kg category at the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020.

    Amlan Borgohain




    On the other hand, 23-year-old Borgohain timed a thrilling moment of 20.75 seconds to win the men's 200m final at the national championships. 





    Assam player Amlan Borgohain, who secured gold at the 200m men's final and silver at the 100m men's final, is currently under training from "Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performance Center". He has shown outstanding performance under this training in the last two years in 100m and 200m run.





    Last year in December, Assam athlete Amlan has additionally gained the title of "Best Player" in the category of men in a competition built amongst the players of this training centre.





    Amlan Borgohain is the son to Subedar Major B.C Borgohain, a resident of Jorhat. But later, Major Borgohain moved to Hyderabad in 2009 following his promotion. 





    In 2014, Amlan and the other members of his family shifts to Hyderabad from Jorhat. Amlan and his family currently reside in Hyderabad.





    Assam archer Bishal Changmai won a bronze medal in the individual section and gold medals in the team. Also in the mixed category in the World Youth Archery Championship held in Poland recently.

    Sharing his experience at the World Youth Archery Championship, Bishal stated, "The environment was difficult to handle in Poland but I managed to adjust. It was really a thrilling moment for me when the Indian National anthem was played during the medal ceremony."





    For every sportsperson, their sucess adds to their efforts and dedication. Also, the efforts of coaches, trainings and academics play an important role in building up a true star in sports. 









    Assam Olympic Association (AOA) delivered their congratulation note for all the players bringing pride to the state with outstanding performances.
