Digital Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) assigned former pacer Ajit Agarkar as the Chairman of the Senior Men's Selection Committee on June 4.

According to rumours, the board has decided to virtually triple the remuneration of the top selector post from its prior level.

Ajit Agarkar took over for Chetan Sharma, who resigned as chief selector following a contentious sting operation. Agarkar previously worked as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. He was recently released by the franchise.

Cricbuzz reports disclose that Ajit Agarkar was initially hesitant to accept the post of chief selector due to the low remuneration offered, which was Rs 1 crore. However, the BCCI agreed to raise the Chairman's remuneration to Rs 3 crore each year, causing Agarkar to reconsider his stance.

Based on the report, the board has not decided on raising the salaries of the other four selectors, who are currently paid Rs 90 lakh per year.

Additionally, a likely course discipline could be discussed at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September.

Ajit Agarkar's first task as the new Chairman will be to choose the team for the forthcoming five-match T20 series against the West Indies, which will take place in the Caribbean and the United States. Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Sridharan Sharath, and Salil Ankola are also on the serve-on list of the selection committee.

The BCCI made an official announcement regarding the appointment of Ajit Agarkar as chief selector. According to the statement, Agarkar was picked for the post based on his experience, particularly in Test matches.

Additionally, the just-appointed Chief selector had a stellar cricketing career. He played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is for India. He was India's 3rd highest wicket-taker in the format, registering 288 wickets in the 50-over format in his name.
