Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday rewarded Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra with Rs 1 crore for his "stellar performance" at the quadrennial games.
CSK further gave a special jersey with the number 8758 (implying Chopra's medal-winning attempt of 87.58 metres) as a sign of honour to the player.
"The whole nation is proud of Neeraj for his spectacular performance. He has established a benchmark and inspires the next generation by becoming the first Indian to win a reward (gold) in the track and field. 87.58 is a number that will always be engraved in Indian sporting history. It's an honour for us to offer this special jersey to Neeraj. We hope he brings more glory to the country," stated CSK CEO KS Viswanathan.

"Thank you so much for your support and the prize. It feels good. The last two months have been hectic and an opportunity to experience new things. I never thought that I'd get so much love after winning gold. It was completely unexpected, and it feels good. Hopefully, I'll work hard and get good results," stated Neeraj Chopra.
Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal in athletics at the Olympic games with a throw of 87.58m on August 7 in Tokyo.
