Decision Review System to make debut in T-20 World Cup

New Delhi: The ICC has stated on Sunday that the Decision Review System (DRS) will be making its debut in the forthcoming men’s T-20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by UAE and Oman scheduled to start this month.

According to a report from the Press Trust of India, as part of this new system, every team will be getting a maximum of two reviews per innings.

Earlier, it was confirmed last year that an additional unsuccessful DRS for each team in an innings of a match throughout all formats of the game. This was done keeping in mind that “there may be less experienced umpires on duty at times” owing to the pandemic.

Therefore, the number of failed appeals in an innings for a team has climbed from two in white-ball cricket to three in the longer format of the game.

DRS was not part of the last T-20 world cup held in 2016. Neither was it used in any previous men’s world cups.

However, it first appeared in 2018 in the women’s T-20 world cup in the Caribbean. It was again repeated in the women’s T-20 world cup held in Australia last year.
