I am not here to butter everyone’s toast: Shastri on Ravichandran Ashwin ‘feeling crushed’

Mumbai: A few days ago, India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had lamented how “crushed” he felt after former India coach Ravi Shastri showed discrimination towards him within the workforce. In response to Ravichandran Ashwin’s assertion, a livid Ravi Shastri said, “Ashwin couldn’t play the Sydney Test after which Kuldeep bowled effectively. So it’s acceptable that I gave Kuldeep an opportunity. If it has harmed Ashwin, then I’m very joyful. This impressed him to do one thing totally different. My job is to not put butter on everybody’s toast. My job is to forward information without any agenda. My job is to not put butter on everybody’s toast (to not hold everybody joyful). My job is to inform information without agenda.”

Ravi Shastri was furious on Ravichandran Ashwin, after the latter accused him of showing favoritism within the team. Ravi Shastri said, “If your coach challenges you, what will you do? Stay silent and lament that and go home crying? I would consider it a golden opportunity for the player to prove his caliber to the coach. If Ashwin has been hurt by my statement, then this episode also inspired him to do something different, because there is a difference between the then Ashwin and today’s Ashwin.
