Digital Desk: The schedule for the next 2023 World Cup will be unveiled on the sidelines of the World Test Championship final at the Oval, according to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah.
The World Test Championship Final between India and Australia will take place from June 7–12 at the Oval in London.
The board has created a list of more than a dozen locations from all over India, and it will soon present the ICC with the final shortlist.
These comments were given by Shah at a press conference that followed the BCCI's extraordinary general meeting in Ahmedabad, which will host the IPL final on Sunday.
With only about four months until the competition starts, the BCCI has yet to formalise the timetable for the ten-team World Cup, which is slated to take place between October 5 and November 19.
A total of 12 locations, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Mumbai, and Trivandrum, are slated to host 48 matches during the World Cup.
Ten cities are set to host league games, with two additional locations holding exhibition games before the main event.
Shah, who is also the current president of the Asian Cricket Council, announced that an emergency meeting of the ACC will be held to discuss the viability of the PCB's hybrid format for the 2023 Asia Cup.
To discuss the Asia Cup informally, Shah will get along with his counterparts from the Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket Board, and Afghanistan Cricket Board on Sunday.
The Asia Cup is scheduled for September in Pakistan, but the ACC has been looking for alternatives because India is hesitant to go there. Four of the 13 games in the six-team championship would be played in Pakistan, according to the PCB's recently suggested hybrid strategy. Nepal, Pakistan, and India are all combined. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka are included in the second group.
The most difficult aspect of the hybrid approach is the travel involved. “Two or three countries sent in their views,” Shah added, “which will be discussed formally at the ACC meeting in the next ten days.”
Shah stated that the Asia Cup be held this year in his capacity as ACC chairman. Since 2008, neither Pakistan nor India has hosted the tournament because of political tensions between the two countries.
