"ICC wants India to reach semi-finals at any cost": Shahid Afridi makes shocking claims

Digital Desk: Bangladesh gave India a scare in the 2022 T20 World Cup on Wednesday (November 2) at the Adelaide Oval, as opening batsman Litton Das threatened to run away with the match with an astonishing knock of 60 in just 27 balls.

India was facing defeat as the game was suspended due to rain since Bangladesh had a 17-run advantage over the DLS system. To the relief of every Indian cricket fan, the rain did stop, and the match was eventually reduced to a 16-over affair. The team lead by Rohit Sharma held their nerve to win by 5 runs.

Ex-Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi responded to a shocking statement claiming that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is doing all they can to make sure India reaches the semi-finals as the match was resumed on a wet outfield. The remark shocked cricket fans as similar attempts were made in both the South Africa-Zimbabwe and Pakistan-South Africa matches, where the match continues amid drizzle on the ground.

"You saw the ground how wet it was. But ICC is inclined toward India. They want to ensure India reaches the semi-finals at any cost. The umpires were also the same who officiated India vs. Pakistan and will get the best umpire awards," Afridi said.

"Given the amount of rain that happened, the game resumed immediately after the break. It is very evident that many things were involved, the ICC, India playing (the game), the pressure that comes with it, there are many factors involved. But Litton’s batting was amazing. He played positive cricket. After six overs, we felt that if Bangladesh didn’t lose wickets for another 2-3 overs, they would have won the match. Overall, the fight shown by Bangladesh was brilliant," he added.

In a news conference, Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan admitted that a wet outfield favours the batting team over the bowling team. The Indian bowling team put in an outstanding performance in difficult conditions to secure the victory. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya each claimed two wickets, while Mohammed Shami contributed one.

If India defeats Zimbabwe on Sunday (November 6) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they would not only qualify but also finish as group winners. However, there is no room for error because a loss might force them to return home.
