Digital Desk: In the third and final game of the ODI series, India defeated Bangladesh by a huge margin of 227 runs, barring the hosts from completing a clean sweep and winning the series 2-1. Despite having their chances during the series, the Men in Blue lacked the crucial edge needed to defeat Bangladesh by one wicket and five runs, respectively.
Now, the focus will be on Test matches, especially for India, which still has a chance to make it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final in the current 2021–2023 cycle.
A few Test experts are expected to return for the Indian team, and KL Rahul is most likely to replace Rohit Sharma as captain. Rohit broke his webbing while attempting to catch the ball in the slips during the second ODI. After admitting that he had a dislocation and required stitches, making his participation in Test matches highly improbable, Rohit travelled to India for medical care.
After missing the ODI series after the New Zealand series, Shubman Gill will play in the Test matches. Since Rohit would not be playing in the series, Gill will likely open alongside KL Rahul. Cheteshwar Pujara, who had a wonderful season with Sussex in the County Championship in 2022 and has been in outstanding form since will bat at No. 3.
In Ravindra Jadeja's absence, Kuldeep Yadav, who was selected for the playing XI for the third ODI, will almost probably make his Test debut. For India, Ravichandran Ashwin will play in a red-ball match for the first time since the March series against Sri Lanka. Ashwin did not participate in the Edgbaston Test. Umesh Yadav, who unexpectedly rejoined the Indian T20 team after a successful IPL 2022, is expected to be the preferred bowler.
The one-day specialist Shikhar Dhawan won't be playing in the Tests. Only the ODI series was selected for Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi, who have yet to make their debuts.
Umran Malik, who was selected to take Shami's position in the ODI team, is also absent from the Tests.
