Digital Desk: The India ODI World Cup squad was announced by the senior national selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) late on Saturday night after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match in Pallekele was called off and reports regarding the team started to spread.
The Indian team has been selected for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup in 2023. KL Rahul's health status was entrusted to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar postponed the squad announcement till September 5.
However, it's claimed that the selectors made their decision after finding out from NCA that Rahul had healed completely and was available for selection.
Sanju Samson's withdrawal from the team is the biggest surprise. Additionally, Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Varma were unable to make it to the team. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav reportedly secured a space, according to The Indian Express.
Ajit Agarkar came to Sri Lanka to meet with the team's coach, Rahul Dravid, and captain, Rohit Sharma, to make a choice.
Ishan Kishan, who has impressed with the bat in the middle order, has also earned a spot in the squad. The team will be captained by Rohit Sharma. Along with captain Sharma, the top four batsmen for India in the multi-nation event will be Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav.
All-rounders Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel were also selected for the team.
With spinner Kuldeep Yadav also joining the squad, the pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
Rahul was chosen for the squad after receiving the all-clear from the medical staff and being verified for fitness by the selection committee.
