Digital Desk: India won their first-ever Women's Junior Hockey Asia Cup title on Sunday in Kakamigahara, Japan, with a historic 2-1 victory over four-time winner South Korea.

After a weak first quarter in which there was no scoring, India quickly picked up the pace as Annu scored from a penalty corner in the 22nd minute. Despite the odds, Annu gave India the lead by easily beating the goalkeeper to her low left after losing a vital opportunity against Japan in the semifinals.

South Korea quickly reacted, with Park Seo Yeon scoring from the right after a spectacular right-side surge three minutes later.

India's defense kept onto their slender advantage in the third quarter despite South Korea's several opportunities, ultimately securing the victory. South Korea was offered several opportunities to score from penalty corners, but they were unsuccessful.

India's performance in this tournament is at its highest point ever thanks to their victory, breaking their previous best of making it to the championship game in Bangkok in 2012, where they fell to China 2-5.
