    India steps down from Asian Under-22 Boxing Championship amid Covid-19 surge
    Digital Desk: The Boxing Federation of India has decided to back off from the Asian Under-22 Championships for men and women in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. 

    The decision to withdraw the Indian teams from the game was taken due to the uprising of the third wave of Covid-19. However, the federation has stated that they are willing to participate in the championship if it is rescheduled for the times when the virus surge is under control.

    Sources confirmed that a letter had been sent to the Asian Boxing Confederation and the tournament's organizing committee confirming India's withdrawal.

    The event was planned to be held from January 20 to 30, 2022. The Asian event was initially scheduled to be held from December 7 to 17 last year but was delayed due to the pandemic.

    The surge of Covid-19 has already hit the Indian boxing teams. It has been reported that around 20 boxers were tested positive in the national camp in Patiala.

    Most of the major sports championship has been postponed in recent time due to the rising number of positive cases all over the globe. The third wave of the Covid-19 has officially started making a rapid surge in major nations.
