KL Rahul Could Be the Next Indian Test Captain: Sources
Digital Desk: So, after Virat Kohli's captaincy, what's next for Indian cricket? Will we be witnessing the start of the Rohit Sharma era? Will he be the all-powerful three-format skipper? Is Team India getting a new set of alternates?

These are the primary questions that every Indian cricket fan is asking, and the answers will be revealed in the following months if everything goes well. The BCCI, on the other hand, has been planning according to the situation. As per sources, the Indian team is unlikely to have a single-player for all three formats.

BCCI sources quoted that KL Rahul will be retained as the next Indian Test captain, while Rohit Sharma will remain as the white-ball captain. There are a number of factors that lead to this conclusion. The BCCI does not want to repeat the Virat  Kohli issue, in which all power is vested in one person, even if that someone is Rohit at this time.

Secondly, given Rohit's fitness difficulties, workload, continual bubble, and travel, BCCI is eager to spread the responsibility between two players, allowing him to pick his series and take breaks as needed, especially with two white-ball World Cups scheduled in two years.

As India will play fewer Test matches this year, the BCCI is eager to train Rahul as the next Indian Test captain, allowing him to serve Indian cricket for a longer period of time. Rahul's opportunity came as a result of Rohit's injury in the recently concluded Test series, which opened the door for him. Moreover, the selectors and BCCI both are keen on keeping Rahul for the red ball.

However, coach Rahul Dravid is yet to confirm the name of the next Indian test captain, and more formal meetings with the selectors and coaching staff will follow, but as things stand, India will have two different captains, a formula that has previously worked well for the country.
