    Md Shami being abused online for India-Pakistan match shows hatred against Muslims: Owaisi

    Dubai: Indian pacer Mohammed Shami became the subject of massive online abuse after the ICC T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan ended in India losing to their rivals yesterday. Observing on the developments of the online trolling Shami is receiving AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that this shows the highly radicalized minds of the people and the vicious hatred against Muslims in the country.





    Hitting out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre, the AIMIM chief asked, will the saffron party condemn the incident?





    He also alleged that Shami is being targeted for India's loss in T20 World Cup as he is a Muslim player.

    "Md Shami is being targeted on social media for yesterday's match, showing radicalization, hatred against Muslims. In cricket, you win or lose. There are 11 players in the team but only a Muslim player is targeted. Will the BJP govt condemn it?" ANI quoted Owaisi as saying during a press conference in Hyderabad.





    On Sunday, as soon as India was defeated by Pakistan fans took to Instagram and Twitter to pass derogatory statements on Shami. Pakistan defeated India by ten wickets and none of the Men in Blue bowlers were able to leave an impact as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan took the bowling to the cleaners.





    Meanwhile, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag extended his support to Shami calling him a champion.





    "The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami. Agle match mein dikhado jalwa," Sehwag tweeted.





    Sachin Tendulkar also echoed similar sentiments. "When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have. I stand behind Shami & Team India," tweeted Sachin.





    However, some political leaders took this as the opportunity for politics. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said in a statement that Shami is being targeted for being a Muslim.





    "Wins and losses keep happening, but the way @MdShami11 being targeted about yesterday's match shows hatred and bigotry towards Muslims. Will @BJP4India government condemn it?#Shami" Owaisi tweeted.
