Digital Desk: New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor has decided to retire from international cricket. In January 2022, the veteran hitter will play his last Test series against Bangladesh. The ODI series against Australia and the Netherlands would be his final limited-overs series the following year.
Taylor is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s best hitters. The right-handed batting superstar is New Zealand’s all-time leading run-scorer in both Tests with 7584 runs and ODI cricket with 8581 runs.

New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor announcing his retirement, tweeted, “Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more Tests against Bangladesh, and six ODI’s against Australia & the Netherlands. Thank you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honour to represent my country #234.”
Ross Taylor, who made his Test debut against South Africa in 2008 and his first of 233 one-day internationals against the West Indies in 2006, will leave the game as New Zealand’s all-time leading scorer in both Test and one-day international cricket. He has scored 7584 Test runs, including 19 hundred, second only to current captain Kane Williamson, and 8581 ODI runs, which puts him above the previous leader Stephen Fleming (8007). His 21 One-Day International centuries are also a New Zealand record.
Taylor has also played 102 Twenty20 internationals for New Zealand, becoming the first player to participate in all three forms.
