Digital Desk: Indian star Neeraj Chopra has advanced to the final of the Javelin event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The defending Olympic champion secured his place with his very first throw, sending the javelin 89.34 meters. Neeraj competed in Group B of the qualification round.
His throw of 89.34 meters not only clinched his spot but also surpassed his previous season's best of 88.36 meters, set at the Doha Diamond League in May 2024. As is often the case, he achieved his goal on his first attempt. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem also made it to the final, reaching 86.59 meters on his initial throw, surpassing the automatic qualification mark of 84 meters.
However, fellow Indian athlete Kishore Jena did not advance. He finished 9th in Group A with a best throw of 80.73 meters. Jena achieved this distance on his first attempt but fouled his second. Despite needing an 84-meter throw on his final attempt, he only reached 80.21 meters, which was insufficient for qualification.
A total of 12 athletes from the 32 competitors across the two groups will proceed to the final. Neeraj Chopra entered the competition with minimal pressure, given his strong form.
