R Ashwin left Rajkot Test, England series midway to attend to mother in Chennai: BCCI VP
Moreover, Rajiv Shukla the vice-president of BCCI wrote on X (formally known as Twitter),” Wishing speedy recovery of mother of R Ashwin. He has to rush and leave Rajkot test to Chennai to be with his mother."

Digital Desk: Indian all-rounder R Ashwin has been withdrawn from the third test against England on Friday due to some family emergency. The announcement came late on Friday after the conclusion of the second day’s play.

Confirming Ashwin’s exit from the squad, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah stated that “Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the test squad, effective immediately due to a family medical emergency.”

In a release, the board further added, “The BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the player and loved one is utmost important”

Moreover, Rajiv Shukla the vice-president of BCCI wrote on X (formally known as Twitter),” Wishing speedy recovery of mother of R Ashwin. He has to rush and leave Rajkot test to Chennai to be with his mother."

With Ashwin out of the third test, India will have to play the entire third test with only 10 players and with 4 specialist bowlers.

According to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) - The Umpire has the authority to allow a substitute fielder if they are satisfied that a player has been injured or ill during the match.

The MCC’s rule no. 24.1.1.2 states that a team can have a substitute fielder but he cannot bowl or act as a captain but the player can be a wicketkeeper only with the permission of the umpires. Since R Ashwin was not injured or ill during the match, a substitute player will be allowed to India only with the consent of opposition Captain Ben Stocks.

However, if India makes a formal request to England and Stocks agrees to a substitute player then there is a slim chance of Ashwin getting replaced with Washington Sundar or Axar Patel who would be able to bat and bowl in the second innings.

Ashwin joined Kumble in the Elite 500 wickets club while playing yesterday. He is the second-highest wicket-taker in Team India as the off-spinner is only behind the Legendary Spinner Anil Kumble, who ended his glorious test career with 619 wickets.

The 37-year-old off-spinner is the second-fastest to achieve the 500-wicket benchmark after Sri Lanka’s Legend Muttiah Muralitharan. Ashwin took 25,528 balls to complete 500 Test wickets.
