Digital Desk: Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer broke the record for the fastest Indian to reach 1,500 runs in ODI cricket while maintaining an unbelievable level of consistency. Iyer achieved this feat on Wednesday in the second One-Day International between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The elegant batsman extended his unbeaten streak by scoring 82 runs off 102 balls at an 80.39 strike rate while hitting six fours and three sixes. Although India lost the game by five runs, the Men in Blue benefited from his knock and consistency. Iyer has scored 1,534 runs at an average of 49.48 in 38 games and 34 innings.
In his ODI career to date, he has scored two hundreds and 14 half-centuries, with a top score of 113*. He has surpassed KL Rahul, who scored the first 1,500 runs in 36 innings, Shikhar Dhawan, who scored the milestone in 38 innings, and Virat Kohli.
