Digital Desk: In a significant setback for the Assam cricket team, captain Riyan Parag has suffered an injury just ahead of the second match in this season's Vijay Hazare Trophy, reliable sources revealed on Monday.

Parag, a key player for both Assam and the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, was part of the Assam squad that suffered a defeat to Gujarat in their opening match of the tournament. However, it has now been disclosed that the talented all-rounder will be sidelined for an indefinite period due to an injury to his upper right arm.

The injury has raised doubts about Parag's inclusion in the Assam lineup and has also put his position in the Indian team selectors' plans at risk. Medical professionals treating Parag's injury have recommended a two-week rest for the player.

With Parag unavailable, the responsibility of leading the Assam squad has fallen to seasoned batter Sibsankar Roy. Under Roy's captaincy, Assam faced Andhra Pradesh today and secured a convincing victory to put their previous defeat behind.

In a low-scoring encounter, Assam's bowlers dominated, restricting Andhra Pradesh to a mere 112 runs. Akash Sengupta was the star performer, claiming five wickets while conceding only 20 runs. Pallavkumar Das and Abir Chakraborty chipped in with two wickets each, and Mukhtar Hussain took one.

Ashwin Hebbar was the lone resistance for Andhra Pradesh, scoring 50 runs, as five batters were dismissed without contributing to the scoreboard. Despite facing some challenges in the run chase, Assam successfully chased down the target in 24.2 overs, securing their first win of the tournament.

As Assam prepares for their next match against Himachal Pradesh on November 29, the big question remains whether Riyan Parag will recover in time to be included in the playing XI. The team and fans alike anxiously await updates on the star player's fitness.
