Indian Team skipper Rohit Sharma is also the only cricketer in the world to have made three double-hundreds in ODIs...
Digital Desk: India skipper Rohit Sharma became the sixth Indian batsman to reach 17,000 runs in international cricket with his 35-ball knock in the first innings of the fourth Test against Australia.
Rohit was unbeaten on 17 runs at stumps on day two at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and he completed 17,000 runs in international cricket by making four more runs in the morning session of day three's play.
He now joins the elite list of Indian batters who have scored more than 17,000 runs in international cricket, including the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, the star-striker Virat Kohli, head coach Rahul Dravid, ex-captains Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Rohit made his international debut for India against Ireland in June 2007 and has since played in 48 Tests (now playing in Ahmedabad Test), 241 ODIs, and 148 T20I matches, totalling 3348 (might bat in second innings at Ahmedabad), 9782, and 3853 runs.
He is also the first cricketer in history to have scored three double-hundreds in one-day internationals. Rohit may have scored more runs in the first innings in Ahmedabad had he not resisted Mitchell Starc's short-ball strategy.
India has already won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur and New Delhi, but a win in Ahmedabad after a loss in Indore would be required to advance to the World Test Championship final, which will be hosted at The Oval from June 7-11.
